ALHAMBRA AND GENERALIFE

The monumental ensemble consists of three different parts that can be seen on a regular basis throughout all of the year.

ALCAZABA:

Besides being one of the oldest parts of the Alhambra, it is the military zone, where you can visit the following places:  La Terraza de la Torre del Cubo, el Adave de la Muralla del Norte, La Plaza de las Armas (that includes the “Barrio Castrense”), la Terraza de la Puerta de las Armas, la Torre de la Vela and the garden of the Adarves.

NAZARÍES PALACES

This is the most well known and visited area of all the parts of the monumental ensemble. It is made up of three palaces, each one constructed throughout different centuries.
The Mexuar Palace is the oldest palace, where you can visit the Hall, the Oratory, the Cuarto Dorado and the Patio of Mexuar.
The palace of Comares was the official residence of the Sultan and the place where there used to be Room of the Throne. Here you can find the patio of the Arrayanes, the Barca court and the Ambassador’s Hall.
The Palace of the Lions is considered as the finest example of Nazarí art. It comprises of the Mocárabes Hall, the Lion’s Patio, the Abencerrajes Hall, the Kings’ Room, the Room of the Two Sisters, the Room of the Ajimeces and the windowed balcony of Daraxa.
Besides this three palaces, this area comprises of other large rooms of special importance:
The Emperor’s bedrooms, built when Charles V decided to settle down in Granada and then used by Washington Irving. In this area you can visit the windowed balcony, the “Patio de la Reja” and the Court of the Lindaraja.
El Partal that comprises of the Palacio del Pórtico, the gardens and avenues, the Rauda, Yusuf the III’s Palace and the Paseo de las Torres.
Because of the peculiar features of the Nazaríes Palaces and in order to make sure that any visitor can make the most of their visit, the tourist board has set the number of visitors to 300 people every half an hour. Therefore, there will be an allocated time of half an hour to view the area.

GENERALIFE:

The Generalife became a place to retreat to for the royal family when they wanted to escape their royal duties. It consists of “Los Jardines Bajos”, the Generalife palace and “Los Jardines Altos”.
The viewing times of the different places will be chosen depending on the time that is stated on the entrance.

The tourist board of Alhambra and Generalife can alter any of the events previously stated because of safety and security procedures and work being carried out on the monumental ensemble or due to festivals and other similar events.
